The Sangolda gram sabha witnessed heated exchanges between villagers and panchayat members over the issue of illegal construction of a mobile tower, illegal filling of fields, Sangolda-Saligao road widening and collection of garbage.
Minister for Housing Jayesh Salgaonkar was present at the gram sabha.
Sarpanch Avinash Naik welcomed the gathering and panchayat secretary Pooja Ganwas read out the minutes of the last gram sabha.
As the gram sabha progresses, Samsan Dias reminded the sarpanch of his promise to take necessary action against an unauthorised mobile tower that has been erected at Belavista.
Since the sarpanch could not give any satisfactory answer, the villagers turned furious and demanded his resignation if he was not capable of taking decisions.
After a prolonged discussion, the sarpanch agreed to carry out an inspection of the mobile tower along with the villagers on February 12.
Sandra Fernandes while raising the issue of Sangolda-Saligao road widening stated that several heritage houses are located on this stretch and demanded these should not be touched.
Minister for Housing Jayesh Salgaonkar rose to clarify that there are apprehensions in the mind of some residents of Saligao constituency that their compound walls will be demolished while widening the road. “This in not true. No compound walls will be demolished without the consent of the owners of the house. If it is absolutely necessary to widen the road then the issue will be discussed with the owner of the land and his consent will be taken,” Salgaonkar assured.
Sandra also raised the issue of filling of low-lying fields in Sangolda with mud and debris. She lamented that the panchayat had failed to initiate any action against the same in spite of repeated complains.
The issues pertaining to garbage collection, CCTV cameras in the panchayat and beautification of Sangolda spring were also discussed in the gram sabha.
