MARGAO
As curtains came down on the Saras festival at the SGPDA ground here on Monday, Rural Development Minister (RDA) Minister Govind Gaude has expressed satisfaction over the response the festival evoked from the people of Margao and surrounding areas.
Speaking at the concluding day of the Saras festival, the RDA Minister pointed out that the festival at Margao generated business to the tune of Rs 1.80 crore as against Rs 1.17 crore registered last year. “This itself is a big achievement for the artisans and Self-Help Groups who had put up stalls showcasing their goods at the festival," Gaude said.
He took the platform to thank the people of Margao and surrounding areas for patronising the stalls put up by the SHGs and artisans, saying the business generated at the festival will definitely give a boost to the members of the SHGs.
Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar appreciated the way the Saras festival was organised in the city, giving an opportunity for the SHGs to showcase their goods and at the same time allowing the people to purchase the goods.
