The farmers of Sattari taluka have evinced keen interest in starting apiculture (beekeeping) business at a training programme at Advai Sattari.
A beekeeping project will be undertaken at Bhironda through the Swayampurna Mitra under the government’s Khadi and Village Industries Corporation.
The programme was attended by Deepaji Rane, Vice Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Corporation; Udaysingh Rane, former sarpanch, panch member and others.
Beekeeper Melvin D’Souza provided the guidance to the farmers at the programme. He said the natural structure of Sattari taluka is very suitable for beekeeping and due to the good quality of forest resources, the environment is very conducive for the business and citizens should take up the initiative. He said that beekeeping projects in states like Maharashtra have been very successful.
He claimed that many farmers in the Sattari have cooperated in this business by keeping bees earlier.
“A number of initiatives have been undertaken in the Bhironda Panchayat area through the Swayampurna Mitra started by the government. Beekeeping is one of them and they have been well supported by the citizens of the area,” D’Souza said.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepaji Rane said that Khadi and Village Industries Corporation would provide all possible help and appealed to make good use of the initiative.
Former Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane also spoke.
The farmers present asked various questions and dispelled their doubts. The names of the farmers who are eager to keep bees were registered. The organisers informed that they will soon be provided with boxes for beekeeping.
