Rajesh Sawal from the ‘Together for Sakhali’ panel was on Thursday elected as chairperson of Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC), defeating the BJP-backed candidate Yashwant Madkar by 7-6 votes.
Sawal had the support of Jyoti Blagan, Raya Parsekar, Kunda Madkar, Ansira Khan, Dharmesh Saglani and Rajendra Ameshkar, while Madkar was supported by Anand Kanekar, Rashmi Desai, Bramha Desai, Dayanand Boryekar and Shubhada Savaikar. Deputy Collector Deepak Vaingankar was the returning officer at the meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Sawal said he would continue efforts to accelerate development in Sankhali town.
“We plan to complete many projects in Sakhali and I will make sincere efforts to work with the ruling and opposition councillors to complete many new projects within the next one year,” said Sawal.
Dharmesh Saglani said the ‘Together for Sakhali’ panel has been providing sincere service to people to promote development.
