South Goa MP Fransisco Sardinha on Thursday morning said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant could win the Lok Sabha elections if he quits as chief minister and contests the polls.
Sardinha was replying to questions by reporters on Sawant’s recent claim that BJP would win both LS seats with a margin of 60,000 votes in South Goa and 1 lakh votes in North Goa.
Sardinha was interacting with reporters after inaugurating the newly laid surface of Br D O Slaterry football ground at Regina Mundi School undertaken through MPLAD funds.
"There is still time for Lok Sabha elections and I will contest the elections if the party gives me the ticket. I am sure the people will vote for me as they did for the last four times. I am a four-time MP and people will stand by with me because I have done whatever I could do for Goa as the MP,” said Sardinha.
Sardinha said the work on the football ground was taken under MPLAD funds.
"Brother Sebastian of Regina Mundi approached me for this work. Regina Mundi is a renowned school and also interested in sports but their football ground was in bad shape. We took up this work by spending around Rs 38 lakh to enhance the facility of the ground under MPLAD funds.”
“Luckily, I got a little share from the previous MP and I had more money at my disposal. I want to assure all schools in South Goa of any help that I can take up within the rules," said Sardinha.
