Sawant ekes out consensus rate for ore transportation

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant eked out a 'consensus' between truck operators and mining company representatives on the ticklish issue of rates for transportation of iron ore from lease areas to landing points, in a meeting on Thursday. 

Representatives of mining companies, the North Goa and South Goa truck owners associations besides the Dharbandora Truck Owners Association participated in the discussions. 

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodlkar also attended. 

The rates finalized are Rs 14.50 per tonne for under 10-kilometer distance and Rs 14 per tonne for distances between 10 to 20 kilometers. 

Truck operators will be paid Rs 13.50 per tonne for distances above 20 kilometers. 

Meanwhile, the truck owners associations said these rates will be only for transportation of e-auction ore and from the existing dumps.
