In accordance with the communication received from the Central Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Goa transport department on Thursday issued an order extending the date for validity of fitness certificate, motor vehicle permit, driving licenses, vehicle registrations, and other documents till December 31, 2020.

The order of the Directorate of Transport issued on October 22 reads, "All public are hereby informed that validity of fitness, permit (all types), licence, registration or any other concerned document(s) related with motor vehicles whose extension of validity could or not likely be granted due to lock-down and which had expired since 1st of February, 2020 or would expire by December 31, 2020, are treated to be valid till 31 December, 2020."

The central government had earlier issued a communication taking into consideration the grim situation owing to the spread of Covid-19 infection and the need for the containment of the disease. With the closure of state transport offices during the lockdown, citizens across the state were facing difficulties to renew various documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.
