The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has announced that the first Summative Evaluation (SE-I) common examination for students of Grades 3 to 8 for the current academic year will be held in October. This will be the second year of Goa’s centralised common examination system.
As per the datesheet issued by SCERT, the examinations will begin on October 3, with Grade 8 students appearing for the Mathematics paper. Students of Grades 6 and 7 will begin their examinations on October 5, while students of Grades 3, 4 and 5 will appear for their first paper on October 7.
For Grade 6, the examinations will be held from October 5 to 8 and will cover English, Science, third-language subjects and Mathematics. Grade 7 students will appear for Social Science, Marathi/Konkani, Science and English. Grade 8 students will have papers in Mathematics, Marathi/Konkani, third-language subjects, Science and English.
For Grade 5, the examination will cover Mathematics, English, The World Around Us and Konkani/Marathi.
The common examination for Grades 3 to 8 was introduced to bring greater uniformity in assessment standards across schools and provide a common benchmark for measuring student learning, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
SCERT conducted the first centralised common examination for Grades 3 to 8 in the 2025-26 academic year. The examination was criticised over the difficulty level of the papers. SCERT has already said that the difficulty level will be lower this year, while application-based questions will continue to be included.
The datesheet lists different examination timings for different grades. Most papers are scheduled from 9 am to 11 am, while some Grade 3 and 4 papers will be held from 11.30 am to 1 pm.
