Speaking at the inaugural function of the eight edition of Science Film Festival of India (SCI-FFI) Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Tuesday urged students to lead the way in preserving the environment.
“Placing the blame on others will have no effect. Start with yourself and make a difference. All ‘I’s have the power to change things,” said Cabral.
Dr Satheesh Shenoy, national vice president of Vijnana Bharati and former director, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), said, “Western nations believe in science, which is restricted to the physical universe. Indian Science, however, has always held that science extends well beyond the physical realm. It is not enough to just cultivate a scientific mentality; we need to develop scientists. And a fantastic endeavour to accomplish the goal is a festival like SCI-FFI, which aims to stimulate young brains in this subject.”
Shenoy also praised Vidnyan Parishad’s efforts to make science more accessible to the common populace.
