A 16-year-old scooterist from Headland Sada was seriously injured after he was knocked down by a truck near El-Monte Theatre at Desterro-Vasco on Tuesday.
According to police reports, Selvino Fernandes was proceeding from Vasco towards Headland Sada on his scooter (GA-06-Q-3662), when he came under the wheels of the truck (GA-08-T-6881), which was on contract with Food Corporation of India, at Headland Sada near the theatre. The truck was proceeding from Headland Sada towards Vasco.
Mormugao Police rushed to the spot and moved Fernandes in a critical condition to GMC Hospital in Bambolim for medical treatment, while the truck driver fled from the site.
The police have registered an offence against the truck driver and is investigating the case.
According to Laurence D’Souza of Khariwaddo, the scooter belonged to his brother Jermon.
"Fernandes is my brother's friend, who came to the house on Tuesday evening and took the scooter."
D’Souza added that he initially received a call informing that his brother had met with an accident near the theatre. “I immediately called my brother on his mobile phone and was relieved that he was safe," said D’Souza.
"I rushed to the accident site and found the scooter under the truck and was informed that Fernandes who met with the accident was moved to the GMC in critical condition," added D’Souza.
