A second strawberry farm has been set up at Gulem-Canacona and has been giving an even better yield, raising the hopes and aspirations of farmers in the area.
According to Canacona Zonal Agriculture Officer Kirtiraj Naikgaunkar, the new strawberry farm at Gulem on the Chapoli dam road is better placed and has wider space with over 500 strawberry plants.
“It yields over 1.5 kgs of strawberries on a daily basis and the plot is better placed,” said Naikgaunkar
On Tuesday, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal evinced keen interest in the strawberry cultivation and visited the farm at Gulem.
“It is good to see farmers in Canacona taking up strawberry cultivation, which incidentally wasn't explored much in the past. But now, more farmers are taking interest in strawberry cultivation especially at a time when the State government is promoting the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa’ mission,” said Dalal.
According to sources, more farmers have shown interest in strawberry cultivation at Gaondongrim and Cotigao, which is expected to boost strawberry production in Canacona taluka.
