The Selaulim water pipeline shut down on Tuesday left many ahousehold without water on Wednesday as the maintenance work got prolonged andwas completed only in the wee hours of the day today.
The situation was expected to return to normal only laterWednesday night or early Thursday, PWD sources said.
Water scarcity hit the villages, which has limited waterstorage capacities, as the water reached Margao and surrounding villages onlyaround noon.
Low water pressure was felt even in Margao as the PWDofficials were involved in filling up the Master Balancing Reservoirs and otherreservoirs on Wednesday evening.
Senior PWD officials in the know attributed the restrictedwater supply to the delay in the maintenance work on the Selaulim water pipeline. “The work, which startedon Tuesday as per the planned shutdown, got prolonged and the entire operationwas completed only at around 5 am on Wednesday”, the engineer told The Goan.
Resultantly, villages which are totally dependent on theSelaulim line had to bear the brunt of the situation. As it normally takes 7-8hours for the water to reach Margao from Selaulim, water reached the city herearound noon with low pressure.
An engineer said that people of Margao should receive normalwater supply later Wednesday night exuding confidence that the situation willreturn to normal on Thursday morning.

MARGAO: Even as several parts of Salcete faced watershortage throughout Wednesday because of the planned shutdown of the Selaulimwater pipeline, a water pipeline ruptured at Cuncolim on Wednesday evening,causing huge wastage of water.
The incident occurred near Neyebandh, near the Cuncolimpolice station on Wednesday evening. Locals suspect that the water pipelinewhich carry the water to the overhead reservoir, was reportedly damaged by aheavy machinery engaged in a road digging.
Local residents of Balli pointed out that that no officialhad turned up at the site to plug the damage and repair the line, fearing thatthey may have to face restricted water supply today and tomorrow,
