Motorists were put to severe inconveniences as the Seraulim underpass was out of bounds for traffic as floodwater inundated the subway on Thursday.

The closure of the road underpass meant that motorists were left with the lone option of crossing the railway crossing near the Church. However, with the crossing closed for the passage of trains, motorists, including school children were left stranded on both sides of the crossing.

Locals along with the panchayat body have made a strong pitch for the construction of a flyover near the underpass to resolve the issue.

That’s not all. Apart from flooding, the Seraulim subway raised a stink with miscreants dumping mixed waste along the approach roads. In fact, a waste mound was found taking shape at the approach road to the bypass, indicating that the road has become the waste dumping ground for miscreants.

Seraulim Deputy Sarpanch Leslie Dourado told the media that the Seraulim subway is inundated with flood water, rendering it unmotorable. “This has forced the people to cross the village at the level crossing, which is closed many times a day for the trains to run on the tracks,” he said.

Dourado had urged the authorities, including the PWD and the railways to work out a solution to the perennial problem. “The water inundating the subway comes from other villages as well before flowing into the River Sal. The underpass has failed to cater to the requirements of the people given its location,” he said.
