As incessant rains lashed, a retaining wall collapsed at Manaswada-Chimbel and has exposed the foundation of a house which now is on the verge of collapse.
The Goan was informed that the incident occurred at around 9 am when incessant rains brought down the retaining wall.
Due to the wall collapse, a portion of the foundation of the house belonging to the Karekar family also gave way, resulting in the house standing precariously and on the verge of collapse if no action is taken to provide protection to the collapsed portion.
After the incident, St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, Dy Collector Rajesh Azgaonkar, Chimbel sarpanch Sandesh Shirodkar, panch Pravin Chopdekar, panchayat secretary Hanumant Borkar, talathi Siddharth Dessai and others visited the site to take stock of the situation.
Sources informed that the occupants have been directed to vacate the house and were offered accommodation in a government primary school at Kirlawada-Chimbel.
The sources further added that a report would be sent to the Collector, only after which further action would be taken on the best way to save the house from collapsing.
“A joint inspection will be held involving the PWD and other authorities after which a plan of action would be chalked out to save the house from collapse,” the sources said.
Meanwhile, the PWD cleared the debris which had fallen on the road and opened it for traffic.
