2 houses damaged due to heavy rains in Canacona

CANACONA
A family escaped unhurt while two houses were damaged and several trees were uprooted as incessant rains lashed Canacona taluka.

The mud walls of houses belonging to Shrikant Mhalgo at Khotigao and Remedio D’Costa at Agonda collapsed with the heavy rains. At Khotigao, the incident took place around 5 am on Thursday, when the wall of one room collapsed while the Mhalgo family were asleep in another room.

In the second incident at Agonda, the mud walls of an unoccupied house belonging to D’Costa collapsed at an unknown time, rendering the house uninhabitable for the family.

Elsewhere, several trees uprooted and collapsed in several parts of the taluka, including Agas (Loliem), Sadolxem, Ardhafond, Hathipaul, and Muthal (Poinguinim), Avem (Khotigao), Mastimoll, Delem and Coloomb (Canacona municipality), Agonda and Khola areas.

In the meantime, the electricity department effected a 5-hour power shutdown from 9 am onwards to carry out line maintenance works, including pruning of trees and cutting of creepers on Thursday.
