MARGAO
Officials of the Margao Urban Health Centre on Friday found an overflowing sewage chamber of a residential complex at Fatorda discharging sewage into the adjoining fields and a water body.
Following a complaint lodged by citizens of the locality earlier this week, Margao Urban Health office Sanitation Officer, Eusebio D’Silva inspected the area and found that sewage water from the building was flowing into the water body, locally known as Dambabali Tali.
“During the inspection, I have found that the sewage water from the overflowing chamber of the building was finding its way into the water body and the fields,” D’Silva told the media at the site after the inspection.
The Sanitary Inspector said he would report the matter to the Urban Health Officer to initiate appropriate action under the Public Health Act.
The local residents had earlier this week complained that the untreated sewage water from the building was finding its way into the water body at Fatorda, causing pollution and posing a health hazard to the residents of the locality.
While demanding action, the residents had called for action against the building owner and also treat the water from the water body.
