CANACONA
In an unusual turn of events, the victim’s father withdrew both his police complaints against the father of the accused, after claiming that he and his family were unable to bear the harassment.
Pratik Naik, the son of BJP leader Mahesh Naik, had been arrested on charges of assaulting, kidnapping and molesting the college girl.
The victim’s father had filed two police complaints against Mahesh on March 20 and 22, accusing him of threatening his family if the police complaint against Pratik was not withdrawn.
Asked if he was pressurised to withdraw his complaints, the victim’s father said: ‘I cannot stand the harassment any more and I want to live peacefully with my family.”
The victim’s father hoped the law would take its course on police investigations into the abduction, assault and molestation of his daughter, which has been registered by police.
He said his daughter had been discharged from the hospital, but had been advised to visit the hospital in two days to remove the stitches on the wound allegedly inflicted by the accused.
When contacted, Canacona police said investigation is still underway and, a chargesheet would soon be filed against Pratik Naik.
Police sources also confirmed that the two complaints by the victim’s father against Mahesh Naik, accusing him of threats and abuse, had been withdrawn.
The assault, kidnap and molestation of the college girl had caused outrage in and around the taluka. Several activists and political parties had also criticised the police for not taking cognizance of the complaints filed by the victim’s father against the BJP leader.
