The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Wednesday has decided to extend the process to finalise the Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Margao and Ponda for a further period of one month to give opportunities for the people to submit their suggestions and

objections.

The PDA has further resolved to temporarily shift the wholesale fish market from the existing site to facilitate the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to construct a modern market.

After the meeting, SGPDA Chairman Krishna Dajji Salkar told the media that the PDA will write a letter to the government to grant one-month extension to open the ODP to facilitate the people to give their suggestions and objections.

On the ODP, the PDA has decided to carry forward the ODP process which was started by the outgoing PDA headed by then Chairman Wilfred D’Sa by giving extension of one month.

“The ODP process was opened over a year ago with people submitting their applications and suggestion. Many issues had cropped, including issues relating to roads. It’s now two years since the ODP was not implemented. Hence, the PDA has decided to give chance for the people to make their suggestions and objections during the one month extended period,” he said, adding that the PDA will write to the government in this respect.

On the wholesale fish market, the PDA Chairman informed that the GSIDC has written to the PDA to hand over the entire market area for development.

“We have deliberated on this issue at the meeting and have shortlisted 2-3 sites for the temporary shifting of the wholesale fish market for a year. One of the sites shortlisted is the spacious area adjoining the Margao KTC bus stand”, he said, adding that the GSIDC and PDA officials have been drafted for the job of shortlisting the place for the make shift wholesale fish market place.

The PDA chairman further informed that the PDA has decided to earmark dedicated space in the wholesale fish market under construction for the Goan fishermen.
