In a significant decision which would pave the way for the return of imported fish in the wholesale fish market, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Wednesday has maintained that the PDA has no objection to the assembly of people to conduct fish business in the wholesale fish market provided they comply with all the guidelines of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

A day after SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar and members Venkat Raut, Tito Cardozo and Lyndon Pereira descended on the wholesale fish market for inspection of the insulated vehicles, the PDA said it has no objection to anyone assembling and conducting business in the wholesale fish market on condition they comply all the FDA guidelines.

SGPDA Chairperson Dr Renuka Da Silva told the media after the meeting that the issue was discussed by members, wherein it was decided that there will be no objection from the PDA to assembly and conduct of business in the wholesale fish market by traders, local boat owners, ramponkars and the traditional fishermen. She, however, made it clear that the wholesale fish market cannot be used as a parking place for vehicles transporting fish in the market. “The PDA has no objection to the conduct of business in the wholesale fish market. Issues such as the insulated vehicles and trade licenses should be looked into by the FDA,” Dr Renuka said.

PDA Member Secretary informed that the PDA will grant NOC for the assembly and sale of fish at the wholesale fish market on condition that they comply with all the FDA guidelines.

“While issuing the NOC, the PDA will ensure that the vehicles are not parked at the market after business hours,” he added.
