In the lurch and uncertain of their livelihood this upcoming tourism season, shack operators in Goa have resolved to place their faith in the outcome of the petition filed before the Bombay High Court at Goa which challenges the National Green Tribunal directive to hold back the shack policy until the State’s Coastal Zone Management Plans are finalised.
The Goa Shack Owners Welfare Association has also moved the High Court against the NGT directive which will be heard on Tuesday. The shack operators held a meeting on Monday in the capital where they discussed the issue and came to the conclusion to await the outcome of the High Court petition.
“We feel that shack business is temporary and we remove the structures in June. These businesses do not come under the ambit of the Coastal Zone Management Plan. That is why we have challenged the NGT directive in the High Court. We hope a positive order comes from the court,” said Cruz Cardozo, president of all Goa Shack owners Association.
Meanwhile, the shack operators have also decided in their Monday meeting in Panjim to petition the State government for a detailed explanation of the blue flag certification of beaches to clear
doubts whether it will affect or eliminate their business.
