CANACONA
Heavy rains have led to a sharp rise in levels at the Chapoli Dam and rivers across Canacona taluka.
According to the Canacona taluka observatory, 153.90 mm of rainfall was recorded from Tuesday midnight till 5 pm, with the seasonal total rainfall having touched 1685.30 mm.
The water level at Chapoli Dam, the lifeline of Canacona, rose to 35.68 RL (Reduced Level) and the dam, which has a limited catchment area, overflows when the reservoir reaches 38.75 RL.
According to the observatory, heavy rainfall since the last two days has led to a substantial rise in the daily level of 0.66 RL on Wednesday alone.
Incidentally, water levels also rose in the three main rivers at Galgibaga, Talpona and Saleri on Wednesday.
