"The Govt is pleased to extend the contract for supply of mid-day meals under the mid-day meal scheme for the self-help groups/mahila mandals/PTAs with effect from October 1 till the end of academic year 2017-18", stated the order issued by Education Director Gajanan Bhat.
Following this order, the SHGs will have to sign a contract with the Dept which was earlier signed for only four months June to September.
Welcoming the move, president of a SHG from South Goa said, "We are happy that the government has considered our request. We have also told the government to provide us with the necessary training so that we can provide better quality meals to students."
Presently, the six-day food items to be provided to students is a combination of either Chole Bhaji and Pao/Poli, Masoor Bhaji and Chapati, red Chowli Bhaji and Chapati, Chana Bhaji and Pav/Poli, Chana-Kuleeth Mix Bhaji and Pav/Poli and Chowli-Paute Mix Bhaji and Chapati.
SHGs' mid-day meal contract extended
State Government has extended the contract of 105 self-help groups and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) supplying mid-day meals in schools across the State till the end of the academic year 2017-18.
