Shigmotsava parade to be held in Mandrem

Food festival at Morjim to boost tourist footfall, says MLA

PERNEM

The State-level three-day food festival will be organised at Vidya Prasarak High School complex in Morjim from February 19 and will boost tourism and promote local produce.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar was interacting with media persons after inspecting the arrangements made at the venue.
“The food festival will offer a platform to locals in tourism, culinary skills and agricultural produce,” said Arolkar and appealed to locals to participate in the food festival and showcase their culinary skills.
“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte have assigned the responsibility of organising the food festival at Mandrem to me and I shoulder this responsibility with the support of local people.”
“The food festival will bring in more footfalls to Morjim, with domestic and foreign tourists. This will boost the business of local hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Organising such festivals would be crucial to promote tourism,” he added.
He further informed that this year the Shigmotsava parade organised by the tourism department will also be held in Mandrem.
Commenting on the carnival parade at Morjim, the MLA informed that the prize money has been kept higher as compared with other cities.
“This is because, the float troupes have to travel from other places to Morjim, thereby covering a great distance, and to compensate them, prize amounts have been kept higher. I have added a specific amount to the government prize money and increased it to a reasonable amount,” stated Arolkar.
