Siolim couple booked for fraud
MAPUSA: In one of the many frauds involving properties and houses of Goans who live out of Goa, a couple from Sodiem-Siolim have been booked on charges of impersonating and forging the signature of a dead woman and transferring the property in their name.
Acting on a complaint filed by Augustine Fernandes, who resides in Mumbai, Mapusa Police informed that the accused husband-wife duo, Dattaprakash Nagvekar and Smita Nagvekar allegedly prepared a fake Power of Attorney by impersonating and forging the signature of the complainant’s grandmother, Mary Pereira, who had passed away in August 1979.
The fake property transaction was carried out by the alleged accused prior to October 2013.
The accused worked so smoothly that they managed to hoodwink the Bardez Sub-Registrar and other authorities in executing the Sale Deed and even entered their names in Form I and XIV, police said.
Police sources said the property of around 180 sq mts was located in Survey 242/24 in Marna, Siolim. The duo has been booked for cheating, impersonating and forgery under various section of the IPC. The accused are yet to be arrested and PSI Sanjit Kandolkar is investigating the matter.
