The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the land-grab cases late on Saturday raided the home of arrested mamlatdar Rahul Desai, located in Caranzalem and have seized some "incriminating documents".
The raid lasted for about five hours with officials of the SIT team rummaging through every nook and corner of the Caranzalem flat from 12 noon to about 5.30 pm, SIT sources said.
Dessai was arrested after nearly 12-odd hours of questioning on Thursday last for allegedly facilitating and masterminding the land-grabbing scam. He faces two FIRs wherein he is charged with conniving with a prime accused Royson Rodrigues to forge land-related documents and allow sale.
Desai was only recently transferred from his position as Bardez mamlatdar to Mormugao belatedly by the State government after several complaints against him by aggrieved parties.
The SIT team is scrutinizing the seized documents with a fine-tooth comb to identify disproportionate assets that the tainted official is suspected to have amassed.
Sources said, SIT sleuths also sought information on Dessai’s bank accounts, property and other assets belonging to him and his family.
Meanwhile, Vikrant Shetty, one of the key accused in land grabbing cases was booked by SIT for cheating one Caitano Fernandes from Agapur, Ponda.
