The Smart City project in Panjim may soon have a tie-up with Denmark, with the European country setting up a center in Panaji, Siddharth Kuncalienkar, director of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) told ‘The Goan’ on Tuesday.
The same was discussed during the Danish Ambassador to India Peter Taksoe-Jensen’s visit to the Smart City office at Adil Shah Palace on Monday. Taksoe-Jensen interacted with Smart City officials including Kuncalienkar and MD and CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri.
If all goes well, and the IPSCDL team is successful in convincing the ambassador to sign an MoU with Panaji, the same may be signed in Gujarat by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inaugural of the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019’ in Gandhinagar on January 18.
Elaborating on the deal, Kuncalienkar said, “We’re trying to convince the Danish government to set up the Smart City center of excellence in Goa.”
When the PM was in Denmark, the Scandinavian countries had signed an agreement with India to select two cities to adopt. As of now, they’re thinking of adopting Panjim, Goa and Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
With a center of this type in Goa, Kuncalienkar said there will be a technology exchange, and more engineers can get trained. “Not only engineers in Goa, but engineers from lots of other cities can also get trained. The Center will be beneficial not only for Panjim, but for the rest of India also,” he said, adding that there would be a lot of educational material at the center so other Smart Cities would be able to send their personnel to the center to get trained.
