Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Welfare of SC/ST Dr Kirit Solanki has assured a delegation of Mission political reservations for the ST community in Goa that he would appraise the issue of political reservation for STs of Goa before the government of India.
A delegation of ‘Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa' called on Dr Solanki at his residence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat to thank him for his efforts to get the political reservation for Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly.
The delegation informed him that based on his instructions, the Goa government has finally submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Law & Justice with a recommendation to constitute a delimitation commission under Section 3 of the Delimitation Commission Act, 2002 for Goa, to reserve four seats in Goa Assembly for Scheduled Tribes.
During his study visit to Goa along with 29 other parliamentarians, from January 11-13 last, Dr Kirit had instructed the Goa government authorities to submit a proposal to the Centre to reserve seats for the Scheduled Tribes of Goa under Article 330 and Article 332 of Constitution of India.
Rupesh Velip informed that during his visit to Goa, the Team Mission had met Dr Solanki personally and explained to him about this long pending demand.
Further, the delegation again met him at his official residence during the Delhi tour from February 11, 2023, to February 16, 2023. At this time, Dr Solanki informed the delegation that he has tabled his Goa study visit report in the parliament on February 12, 2023. "It is based on the instructions of Dr Solanki, a proper proposal has been submitted to the Centre to reserve the seats in Goa Assembly for Scheduled Tribes,” he said.
The delegation has now submitted copies of the proposal to Dr Solanki which the Goa government has sent to the Centre.
He has assured the delegation that he will personally follow up on this with the Centre and will also raise this matter in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament so that the delimitation commission gets constituted for Goa, to reserve the seats for Scheduled Tribes of Goa in this term of the present Government itself i.e. before the Lok Sabha election of 2024.
