PERNEM: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday stated that some politicians tried to give communal colour to the proposed Mopa airport, but the government overcame the hurdle and started the work.
“Dabolim airport would also function along with the Mopa airport,” assured Parrikar while speaking during the inauguration of newly constructed bus stand at Pernem.
Speaking further, Parrikar said after 3 years planes will land at Mopa airport. “About 10,000 job opportunities would be created and the jobs will be reserved for Pernem people,” assured Parrikar.
He further said the Seventh Pay Commission would be implemented for KTCL workers and financial provision will be made for it.
Chief Minister Lamikant Parsekar said the government will earn revenue of 35% from the Mopa airport and also create jobs opportunities for Goans.
Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar, Pernem Municipal Council Chairperson Smita Kudtarkar, GSIDC managing director Sanjit Rodrigues, director Derek Pereira, Mandrem BJP Mandal president Ramesh Shet Mandrekar, Pernem BJP Mandal president Krishna Gawade and others were present.
Meanwhile, the activists of Goanchaya Kul-Mundkarancho Awaz led by Umesh Talvnekar tried to show black flags when Defence Minister Parrikar and Chief Minister Parsekar reached the inauguration venue at Pernem.
However, the police team led by Pernem PI Sanjeev Dalvi stopped the activists near Pernem PWD office.
