Amidst the fierce debate on the recently passed controversial Bhumiputra Bill, an allegedly illegal house belonging to a son of the soil in Candolim was demolished by the government authorities on Tuesday.
A group of labourers engaged by the PWD along with a JCB went about the job to demolish the concrete structure in survey nos 129/1, 129/5, 129/6 and 129/9 in the village of Candolim.
The deputy collector and mamlatdar of Bardez along with the police force were present at the site to monitor the demolition work.
The sub-divisional magistrate and incharge of demolition squad, North, Ajay Gaude issued the order of demolition of the illegal construction.
The house was allegedly constructed in the CRZ area.
“The demolition of the house of a son of the soil proves that this Bhumiputra Bill is a joke. If the government is concerned about the locals then it should have ensured that no houses would be demolished until the bill becomes an Act,” said Agnel Fernandes, former MLA and General Secretary of Congress.
Sources informed that an outstation builder has purchased the entire property and the demolition was carried out at his behest.
