MARGAO
Congress President Sonia Gandhi will take the final call on the Congress alliance with like-minded parties to unitedly fight the 2022 Goa Assembly polls.
Top state leaders, including GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Opposition leader Digambar Kamat, working presidents Aleixo Sequeira and Reginaldo Lourenco, besides South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi in the national capital to discuss poll preparedness, including the contentious issue of forging alliances with like-minded parties.
Sources said after hearing the opinions of the Goa Congress leaders, besides the central observers, Rahul Gandhi is believed to have told the leaders that party president Sonia Gandhi will take a call on the alliance issue.
They said those leaders who had all along opposed alliances with the Goa Forward Party and the NCP are believed to have reiterated their stand that the party should go alone at the hustings.
This view, however, did not find favour with the other group, which is believed to have underlined the need for like-minded parties to unitedly fight the election to keep the BJP at bay.
Sources in the know say a section of the party favoured alliance with the GFP on condition that the party should not concede more than 5-6 seats.
