South Goa courts given jurisdiction to try mining cases

The State government has designated the court of the Additional Sessions Judge, South Goa as a ‘Special Court’ for trial of illegal mining cases in the State.   

The notification issued under section 30 B of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 

has been issued with the concurrence of the Bombay 

High Court.   

Director of Mines and Geology, Prasanna Acharya, issued the notification last week for the speedy trial of cases of contravention of the provisions of the MMDR 

Act, 1957.   

District Judge-I and Additional Sessions Judge, South Goa, Edgar Fernandes has been designated the Judge to preside over the Special Court.
