South Goa district Police Chief, Pankaj Kumar Singh, on Tuesday, patted the police from Salcete for 100 per cent detection of chain snatching cases, saying the recent arrest of an accused had helped the men in uniform to recover gold weighing 182 grams valued around Rs eight lakh.
The Superintendent of Police further said though bullfights have taken place secretly in Salcete, the police had managed to book eight cases and arrested 16 persons under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
That’s not all. He pointed out that the police have initiated preventive action against 99 bull owners/organizers of bullfights in Salcete area.
In terms of property offences, 74 cases have been reported this year of which 50 have been detected, adding that detection rates have improved from 63 per cent to 68 per cent over the last year. “In all, more than Rs 20 lakh stolen property has been recovered in Salcete area alone”, he added.
He said crimes against women and children have been taken very seriously by police and all cases are diligently investigated. “This year, 12 cases of rape have been reported and all have been investigated. One such case requiring special mention is the Benaulim rape case which was worked out in record time. There was one instance of sex trafficking in Margao. Upon receipt of information police teams quickly sprang into action and rescued three victims and arrested two accused persons”, he said.
SP Singh said a total of five murder cases were reported this year in Salcete area, out of which four cases were investigated by Margao sub-division. One murder case of an unknown male person is with Colva police,” he added.
