The injured students, who sustained injuries on the faces, were immediately rushed to Hospicio hospital. The driver Nitin Velip was also admitted in the hospital.
Demanding action against the driver, passengers said he had lost control of the speeding bus while overtaking a lorry.
Cuncolim PI Gurudas Kadam has said that the police will initiate action against the driver under the provision of the IPC and Motor Vehicle Act. When asked to react to the demand of the passengers to suspend the license of the bus driver, PI Kadam said the police would move the RTO in this regard.
Meanwhile, Green Goa Foundation has demanded immediate legal action against the driver and owner of the vehicle, warning that GGF will not mind moving the High Court. “The bus driver was driving very fast and overtaking other buses. While overtaking other buses, the ill-fated bus rammed against the goods carrier,” GGF Chairman Raison Almeida said, while demanding the immediate suspension of the bus driver’s licence for rash and negligent driving and putting lives of public at risk.
“There were several students commuting to school on that bus. Some of them were injured and unable to answer their exams,” he said, adding, “The bus too is not in good condition. Its tyres have worn out,” he said, while demanding cancellation of its permit.
