The Aquem power house witnessed an uproar on Wednesday morning after senior citizens and other customers cried foul over the failure of the department staff to take their bill payment in physical mode.
As the server was down on Wednesday morning, with the department on the job to upgrade the system at the head office at Kadamba plateau, online payment of power bills came to a halt at the Power House in the morning.
What agitated the senior citizens the most was the refusal by the staff to accept the payments on physical mode. The senior citizens wondered whether the department will wait for days together if the system does not resume immediately.
“We are all senior citizens waiting for the payment of the power bills since morning. The staff has told us that the internet is down and the payment cannot be accepted online. We have sought to know from the staff whether they will not accept the payments if the internet does not resume for days together”, the senior citizen said.
He added: “The department is making the senior citizens do the rounds of the power house for no fault of ours. If the online system of payment is out of order, the department should have accepted the payment in physical mode. But, they just delayed in accepting the payments on the lame excuse the stamp is not available.”
Payment in physical mode was finally accepted by the staff after an officer intervened in the matter after being informed by department higher-ups and after making available the stamp.
