PANAJI
A Sri Lankan national, Mohd Nasoordeen Mohd Ismath, will face trial for rape after a directive from the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa, on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old is facing charges of befriending a woman on social media between September and November 2023, during which time he allegedly captured her nude photos/videos without her consent during video calls.
“The accused threatened to circulate the objectionable materials on social media and to the complainant’s family members. He also assaulted her and allegedly raped her on multiple occasions,” stated the Public Prosecutor during the hearing.
The accused was arrested by Anjuna Police after the registration of the offence and has been in judicial custody since then. The JMFC ‘A’ Court Mapusa, presided over by Shilpa Pandit, ordered his continued judicial remand until the conclusion of the trial. He is directed to appear before the Principal Sessions Court in Panaji on March 20.
“The case and charge-sheet have been transferred to the Principal Sessions Court, North Goa, Panaji, along with the accused. Notice shall be issued to the Public Prosecutor regarding the case’s transfer to the Sessions Court,” the order stated.
