In a bid to resolve the issues faced by the farmers including the non-inclusion of names in the tenants association, inundation of fields with saline water and others, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar organised a Farmers Connect programme at Neura and Mandur, on Sunday.
A large number of farmers attended the programme at both places in a hope that their names would get included in the tenants associations of Neura, Mandur and Azossim.
The farmers brought with them the documents of the fields, which is in the names of their parents or grandparents.
The staff of MLA Borkar recorded the names of the farmers along with the documents relied on.
Later, speaking to The Goan, Borkar informed that the aim of the programme is to ensure that the issues faced by the farmers are resolved so that they return back to farming.
“The issues include non-inclusion of names in the tenants associations, inundation of fields with saline water, among others,” he added.
Borkar further said that he would follow up on the issue with the Secretary (Revenue) so that the process of inclusion of names is eased.
“If there is a need to appoint a lawyer for the tenancy cases, then a common lawyer could also be appointed,” Borkar said while stating that a suggestion was made to appoint a vigilance committee of farmers to keep check on sluice gates, particularly during the night time when the doors are deliberately opened.
“When the doors of the sluice gates are opened, the saline water gushes into the fields rendering them uncultivable,” the MLA informed and stated that there should be a strong mechanism to keep check on such illegal activities.
