MARGAO
The Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa made its presence felt in Rachol in Salcete with leaders giving a call to members of the ST community to remain united to achieve the goal of political reservations.
The Mission Political Reservation in association with Goan Tribal Association held an awareness meeting at the residence of Rachol sarpanch Joseph Vaz, wherein ST leaders recalled the sacrifices made by the tribal leaders to get justice for the community.
ST leader Kanta Gaude shed light on the struggle of late Tribal leaders including Anton Gaonkar, Babuso Gaonkar, Peter Gama, Mama Cardozo and others in the battle to get recognition for the Gauda, Kunbi and Velip communities as Scheduled Tribes communities of Goa.
Govind Shirodkar explained the importance of representation of ST communities in the Goa Assembly and the House under Articles 330 and 332 of the Constitution of India.
“If this one demand is fulfilled, the remaining constitutional rights of the ST communities will automatically get settled, as the elected ST MLAs from reserved seats will become the voice of the community in the Assembly,” he said.
He further appealed to get ready for a bigger movement of the ST community if the Government and Goa CM sit over the proposal for ST reservation.
Sarpanch Joseph Vaz gave a call to the community to come together and support this Mission and be ready to give their time for this movement so that their children can see a better future.
The executive members of Mission were felicitated at the hands of sarpanch Joseph Vaz for their dedicated work towards the community.
