The stage is set for the celebration of the traditional Dindi festival in the city here on Sunday evening.
The Hari Mandir, which plays host to a number of cultural and religious events, preceding the famous Dindi, is all decked up ahead of the festival.
The Dindi festival attracts thousands of devotees from far and wide as they pour into the city to seek blessings of the deity Vithal Rakhumaye. The palanquin of deity Vithal Rakhumaye is taken in a procession, starting from the Hari Mandir, Pajifond before it wends its way and makes halt at the new market area, Margao municipal square, Vithal Mandir before the procession returns back to the Hari Mandir the next day.
To mark the occasion, the organisers normally rope in outstation classical singers, who perform at the Hari Mandir, New Market, MMC square.
The Goa police has made elaborate security and traffic arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival.
Meanwhile, the Shree Dambabalem Ghodem Cultural Association headed by former MLA Damu Naik has organised a host of cultural programmes coinciding with the Dindi festivities.
Damu told the media that the Dambabalem Ghodem will hold its 8th all Goa Dindi competition and 15th All Goa Akash Kandil, fruit and vegetable carving completion at Shree Dambab Chowk, near State Bank of India, Margao, on November 10. “Our motive is to work for the society, keeping our art and culture alive in the mondernising world, giving opportunity to the young talents and giving a right platform to the new faces,” Damu said, adding that motivating the students to excel in the academics and sports for their bright future and to create future pillars of society are the other motives of the association.
Meanwhile, Yuv Sanjivani chief Sharmad Raiturkar informed that the NGO will host a number of cultural events to mark the Dindi festival.
