A high level meeting held in the district Collectorate, South on Wednesday has explored the possibility of educational institutions located along the railway tracks at Comba to implement staggered timings to ease traffic congestion during school peak hours.
The meeting chaired by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat was attended by Chairman of the Hindu Mathagramastha Sabha’s run Damodar High School and Damodar Higher Secondary science stream, Bhai Naik and Dr Manoj Hede, Physical Sports Director of Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao.
Both the representatives of the education institutions supported the move for staggered timings for their respective schools at the meeting. The representatives have also agreed to have a joint meeting of the managements of the educational institutions for smooth implementation of the staggered timings.
Chairman of Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha, Bhai Naik said the education institutions run by the organisation will offer full support to the endeavour to ease traffic congestion during peak school hours. He is learnt to have made certain suggestions, including the closure of the road during peak hours and the shifting of the vendors, including a fruit juice centre and horticulture shop, adding traffic congestion in the area.
“I have impressed upon the authorities to shift the horticulture shop and the fruit juice shop to another area since they contribute to the congestion near the Comba railway crossing,” Bhai Naik added.
