With poor fish catch reportedso far at the beginning of thenew season, traditional fishermenas well as boat ownersare anxiously looking forwardto the rough weather to subsideand pave way for conduciveconditions for fishing atthe earliest.The boat owners are alsolooking forward to the returnof the migrant workers toventure out in the sea at leastfrom September onwards.A visit to the coastal villageof Colva showed that a coupleof country-made motorizedcanoes were in the sea hopingto net the prized solar s
hrimp.However, most of the canoesreturned with a small catch ofshrimp or other small varietyof fish.In fact, the traditional fishermenclaimed that the badweather and the strong windshave hampered fishing.“The fishing season so farhas brought us no good news.The bad weather and strongwinds have come in the wayof fishing. The catch has beenpoor too. Only small quantitiesof solar shrimp and othersmall variety of fish havebeen netted so far,” remarkeda fisherman.Another fisherman claimedthat unlike in the past whenthe motorized canoes usedto net tonnes of the prizedsolar shrimp, the situationis different this time around.“We have able to net only afew kilograms of the shrimpwhenever we have venturedout for fishing. We only hopethat there will be a turnaroundin the coming days,”the fisherman added.Even boat owners, whoown fishing vessels, pointedout that the first monthof the new fishing seasonhas not been positive for thefishermen. While majority ofthe vessels still lay anchoredat the fishing jetties, thosewhich had ventured out withlimited manpower have notreported any major catch sofar.They, however, hoped thatthings will be different in thecoming days, anticipatingthat the weather conditionswill stabilize, paving way forfishing without any problems.
