PANAJI:

In what could be a last revision of the scheme, the State government has extended the benefit under the debt relief scheme for mining-affected borrowers of financial institutions till March 31, 2025.

However, the extension is limited to only those proposals that are pending with the banks or those which were rejected by the banks on technical grounds.

The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) said that considering that this would be the last revision of the scheme, the Chief Minister would be the final authority to grant benefit fully or in exceptional cases as ex-gratia benefit in either single or group of cases.

Since the launch of the scheme in 2012, the financial benefits under the scheme has been extended for more than ten times.

As per the scheme, subsidy up to 35 per cent on the total loan settlement amount is provided. The banks and financial institutions are granting 100 per cent loan interest waiver and 40 per cent waiver on the principal amount for truck owners and 30 per cent to barge owners.
