State may see heavy rainfall in next two days, predicts IMD

MAPUSA

A low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh with associated cyclonic circulation could enhance rainfall activity in the State even as the seasonal total was staring at a deficit of 54.5 per cent on Tuesday.

An off-shore trough at mean sea level from south Gujarat coast to Kerala is also expected to influence the weather system in the State.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at most places in the State from June 28 to 29 while light to moderate rain was very likely at most places on June 30 and July 1.

There was decreased rainfall activity on Monday with most centres recording low rainfall with only Margao recording 50.7 mm in the last 24 hours.

Panaji recorded 1.4 mm, Mapusa 1.1 mm, Sanguem 1.7 mm and Ponda 4 mm.

The seasonal total rainfall had touched 365.4 mm, as compared to the normal of 803.3 mm indicating a deficit of over 50 per cent.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture out into the sea even as winds are expected to be gusty, peaking from 40 to 45 kmph to 55 kmph.

While the monsoon made a delayed entry into the State on June 8, the rainfall activity has been very inconsistent resulting in deficit rainfall.
