The Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) is organising its 50th annual convention in Panaji and the theme of the convention is ‘Water: The Elixir of Life’.
U. P. Parsekar is the chairman of the organising committee of the convention. Parsekar is also the principal chief engineer of Public-Works-Department (PWD). Speaking to mediapersons, Parsekar said, “IIWA is concerned with all ideas, technologies and research related to both drinking and waste water. It was established in 1968 and this year Goa has been given an opportunity to host the annual convention.”
Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, will inaugurate the convention at Kala Academy on February 19. A number of delegates from India and abroad will attend the convention to share their ideas about the theme.
Diane D’ Arras, director, International Water Association will deliver the keynote address at the convention. Another key address will be delivered by Prof. Shyam Asolekar from IIT Bombay.
Alongside the convention, an exhibition will also be organised which will have stalls relating to latest technologies and products in the field of water and waste water. A significant number of papers and lectures will also be presented.
These sessions are aimed at students and budding water professionals to encourage them with the help of experienced mentors. There will be prize distribution as well for the winners of technical activities.
During the press conference, it was also informed that special technical sessions on ‘Smart Water & Smart City’ will also be conducted because Panaji is going to be developed as a smart city.
