Even as Hospicio medical superintendent Dr Aira Almeida ruled out the negligence theory behind the stillborn child, she, however, pointed out that the post mortem examination will unravel the exact cause behind the death of the stillborn child.
The post mortem examination was ordered after the family members raised questions on the stillborn baby, demanding to know how the baby died in the womb within seven hours of the admission of the woman at Hospicio.
The 16-year-old woman was rushed to Hospicio at midnight after she complained of pain. This was her first delivery and the hospital had earlier given the delivery date on March 28. At around 7 am on Wednesday, however, the medical staff told the relatives of the pregnant woman that sad news, leaving the family members shocked and surprised, prompting them to raise the question of negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. “We want to know the exact cause behind the stillborn child. How can the child die within seven hours after the mother was admitted in the hospital,” remarked a relative, who demanded a detailed incident of the entire episode.
Hospicio Medical superintendent Dr Aira Almeida could not be contacted in the hospital in the morning, but she informed over the phone in the evening, ruling out negligence. “There’s a possibility that the stillborn could be a result of the woman suffering from fever. The allegation that the pregnant lady was not attended to is not acceptable since she was admitted in the labour room,” Dr Aira explained.
She, however, said that the post mortem examination will reveal the exact cause of the death of the stillborn baby.
