While the notification of the State highway has virtually sealed the fate of the bars and restaurants located along this road, residents now fear that the highway status of the narrow road would result in hardships to the residents and taking away their scarce land for future expansion.
A delegation of local residents opposed to the Ramnagar-Chandor State highway led by Curtorim Panch member Simon Barretto called on PWD Executive Engineer to verify the exact status of the Ramnagar-Chandor road. When the delegation demanded to know the notification concerning the State highway passing through Ramnagar-Chandor, the Executive Engineer, Ratnakar Challan said the notification was issued somewhere in the late 70’s.
Simon, however, cried foul saying the so called State highway is just a narrow road passing through the ST inhabited pockets. “How can the government notify the Ramnagar-Chandor road as a State highway when it is passing through the ST areas and which will threaten farming land,” Simon questioned.
The delegation has served a four-day ultimatum on the government to withdraw the notification failing which they have threatened to block the road.
