MARGAO
Goans For Goa (GFG) has given a call to all Goans to come to the wholesale fish market, with their ghummots, guitars, musical instruments and anything that makes sound...so that the noise rises above the stench..and reaches the ears of the authorities.
GFG convenor Kennedy Afonso told the media that the GFG had earlier given a clear ultimatum to the government and MLA Vijay Sardessai, some days back, requesting them to take immediate steps to restore some sense of hygiene at the wholesale fish market in Margao within 10 days failing which the people of Goa will be forced to gather at this point in protest. “We will create a noise that even the fish sellers will do a samba to the sounds of the gummots to teach them a lesson on the true meaning of Goem, Goemkar and Goemkarponn,” Afonso said.
Since no one has visited the place since then, GFG will hold a mega protest at the wholesale fish market, Margao on April 30, from 8.30 am to 11 am to raise awareness on this issue, with the hope of preasurising the govt to take immediate action.
“The whole fish market is a breeding ground for all kinds disease-bearing insects, with water stagnating at various places. The stench from this place, can be felt even in the Collectors office, but even the Collector seems to have become immune to the stench, and has failed to take corrective action on it. One cannot even walk in this market without their
shoes and pants getting wet,” he added.
