Former Deputy Sarpanch Marvin Gonsalves and local Panchayat member Diona Korgaonkar dismissed the claims made in the note suggesting that Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) water is being used to cook food in the kiosks outside Goa Medical College and Hospital’s (GMC) Super Speciality Block (SSB).

“Such a claim is completely false and is probably being made to shut down the businesses of the locals and to benefit a private entity,” Gonsalves stated.

“Some of the kiosk owners have been operating here for over 20 years and they bring water from their homes,” he said, questioning the basis on which the claim was made in the note.

Panchayat member Korgaonkar said that she knows the vendors who are conducting their business honestly.

“I am very sure that they are not using the STP water for cooking purposes,” Korgaonkar informed, adding that it is only a ploy to put the locals out of business and benefit a private entity.

Korgaonkar further stated that in major hospitals across the country, there are vending zones outside and such vending zones should also be set up outside the SSB hospital.

“This will resolve the issue once and for all,” Korgaonkar stated, adding that the Curca Panchayat has already sent a proposal in this regard to the North Goa Collector six months back.
