The issue of stray cattle came back to haunt the Cuncolim Municipal authorities on Tuesday after cattle were mowed down by speeding vehicles on the National Highway at Cuncolim.
A cow and her calves were killed after they were run over by a vehicle in the wee hours of the day. Locals pointed out that cattle getting killed on the National Highway has become a routine affair for want of any stray cattle measures by the Cuncolim Municipal Council.
In fact, Adv. Rajma Desai claimed that the pound keeper engaged by the Cuncolim Municipal Council is busy with office work, as a result of which there’s no cattle pound keeper to drive away cattle straying on the highway.
She has demanded that the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer should look into the matter and take steps to keep stray cattle at bay.
