Noted medical practitioner Dr Oscar Rebello has admitted that doctors in the State, especially from the government sector, along with nurses and other medical staff are undergoing tremendous stress and are on the verge of emotional breakdown.
“The medical fraternity, not only in Goa, but in the entire country has reached to that stage today, that if we do not take care of their mental and physical health, the stress will kill them. Some of them may even try to commit suicide,” Dr Rebello told The Goan.
Stating that the medical fraternity are also human beings and suffer physical, mental, and emotional stress, Dr Rebello said “We have to prepare our medical fraternity, physically and psychologically, before the third wave hits.”
Dr Rebello said doctors, nurses and other medical staff have to be careful and watch out for any signs of depression, anxiety or mental stress and need to act right now, and prepare fully before the third wave.
“It is just impossible to continue working in this manner, without any break. There are few private hospitals who attend to Covid patients but all government hospitals are overloaded with patients and doctors are offering 24x7 services. The government should find some solace, and a solution to give a break to Covid warriors,” said Dr Rebello.
