The Mission Political Reservations for the Scheduled Tribes has again reiterated that the ‘Delimitation Commission’ be constituted prior to the declaration of Lok Sabha elections of 2024, saying once the delimitation commission is constituted, the process to reserve the seats than becomes autonomous as per Delimitation Commission Act, 2002.
“We are expecting a positive outcome on Wednesday, February 28 after the cabinet meeting of Union Government of India,” informed Adv Joao (John) Fernandes, president, Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa.
Addressing the media, John said Home Minister Amit Shah has assured to resolve the issue of political reservation in the upcoming cabinet meeting of Union government on Wednesday.
He said the delegation of Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa consisting its three members, President Adv John Fernandes, Govind Shirodkar (spokesperson), its attorney Ravindra Velip along with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Speaker of Goa Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister Govind Gaude, MLAs Ganesh Gaonkar and Antonio Vas, MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade and other leaders from Scheduled Tribe community met Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence in New Delhi.
“The Chief Minister and the other delegates present explained the issue of reservation of seats in Goa Assembly for Scheduled Tribes of Goa in detail to the Home Minister. The Home Minister explained that Chief Minister Sawant has already briefed him during the last meeting and his office has already prepared notings in this regard and the same will be tabled during the next cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday,” John said.
He further said the Home Minister agreed that the issue ought to have been resolved in the year 2013 along with the other states but somehow it was missed. “And now that it has been brought to the notice of the government, Amit Shah has assured to resolve the same and provide justice to the Scheduled Tribe community of Goa,” he added.
John said the present development has happened against the backdrop of the morcha taken on the Goa Assembly on February 5 by the Mission, and the subsequent discussions taken place on the floor of the Goa Assembly on February 10, followed with an assurance by the Chief Minister to take up this matter with the Home Minister of India.
